Project History
Discover what happened in the past here at San Luigi!
Use the menu below to discover the main activities that were held since the association was established. This list is not comprehensive, as some activities are fragmented throughout the year or some others are proposed as parts of a flagship project.
LC1 – LC2
We have worked hard to allow the colorful collaboration among all project managers and members. We
keep contact with different FMOs around Europe and the EMSA European Board.
– Board/projects reorganization
– Website restructuring and update
– Mailing system for the board
– Automated and unique certificates of activity
– EMSA Turin discord server
SuTurin Project
The realization of this project came from the need and will of students to learn basic surgical skills that are
unfortunately not taught at our institution.
The project was constructed by motivated students, who are aspiring surgeons, with the help of a Surgery
Professor of our university. We have prepared a lecture divided in two parts. First the theory behind wounds
and sutures are taught, then a demonstration of basic sutures on a silicone pad takes place. On a second
day, we encourage to practice the learned sutures on a pig or chicken leg.
Surgical skills are essential to any medical doctor and as any other skill “practice makes perfect”. We believe
strongly in the peer-to-peer education as it allows students to not only practice themselves but to teach
these techniques to other fellow students. Thus, with our professor we have trained students of the 5th and
6th year with the goal of tutoring their younger peers. In this way we wish to create a system that will
sustain itself: the students of today will be the tutors of tomorrow.
Twinning Project
The Twinning Project is an intercultural exchange of around 7 days. This exchange is organized by two EMSA
FMOs, who both select around 10 participants. The TP consists of an educational, cultural and social
program. Our selected students are welcomed in the foreign hosting university and as in a typical Twinning
Project, the food and accommodation should be provided by the hosting students along with a daily activity
plan. The twin students are received at our university for the same duration. During this time, the host
students can experience the excellence that the Polo Didattico and the city of Turin have to offer.
Furthermore, the project provides educational activities in both host faculties, including experiences
otherwise not feasible in Italian universities. The TP also consists of social and cultural activities that will
showcase the host cities in their artistic and cultural dimensions, but that might also lead to long-term
friendships.
The collaboration with “Praticare Onlus” is aimed at developing a path to sensitize students to the
functioning of health in low-income countries, of refugee shelters and of immigration policies. The
collaboration aims to prepare students to eventually go on humanitarian missions in Sicilian hotspots and in
African countries.
Achievements
Some Emsa members took part to the training lectures held by the Onlus in November/December.
Moreover, in March a conference was held by Prof. Fantauzzi (the president of the Onlus) titled “Quando il
medico non c’è”.

Italian Language Project
The Italian Language Project is aimed at giving foreign newcomers basic Italian language skills. We came up
with the quintessential words and phrases to help them not be lost in their first weeks in a new country, and
be able to for example communicate in stores, or have basic vocabulary needed to find an accommodation.
Achievements
In November around 12 people attended the project. Based on the feedback they seemed to really enjoy it,
especially the practical parts where they had the chance to practice in small groups what they have learned
in model situations.
